Picnic at the Beach
This is my absolute favorite kind of date night! I love it for a few reasons. 1. It's free 2. You get to go to the beach 3. If you go on a week night, it's not usually busy 4. You can bring your dog. I love a date night at the beach. We usually bring our own dinner, but you can also grab food to go from a restaurant. We bring our beach chairs and some blankets and find a spot and plop. It's so fun to just be near the water and hear the waves. Sometimes we bring games and sometimes we just chat and catch up. In my opinion, nothing beats a picnic at the beach with my hubby!
Game Night + Dinner
Game night can mean a few different things to me. We love playing games and it's really great to interact with each other in a fun way. Sometimes we do game night at home and cook dinner, but if we want to go out and leave the house, we'll go to Dave n Busters or some kid of arcade like that. It's so fun to compete in a flirtatious way and then grab a bite to eat. Also, game night for use means baseball. We're about get into baseball season here and I'm stoked to be able to go to games again with Collin!
Hike
I love hiking! Collin isn't as fond of hiking as I am, but I love it. A super fun date night for us is to hike Torrey Pines. There's a fork in the hike and we always choose the beach path. If we time it right, we'll end on the beach and can catch the sunset. It's super fun and the benefit is getting in a workout with each other. Oh, and did I mention I love date nights on the beach???
Fancy Dinner
Collin loves getting dressed up and a fancy dinner is always a good idea. It's nice to get out, find a new restaurant and try new foods. We love trying new restaurants. Collin always tries new drinks and I like to see how they designed the space. We usually have a lot to talk about, but if you want the conversation to take a different urn, there are some fun games you can bring along. Here is one I found that is super fun. We usually just bring a few of the cards, not the whole box, and it starts a pretty fun conversation.
Escape Room
Okay I'm going to be honest with you. I am absolutely horrible at escape rooms. That's just not how my brain works. Collin does most of the work and I'm his assistant who holds the flashlight or reads stuff out loud. I'm pretty useless. Collin loves them and he's really good at them! Escape rooms for us are definitely communication building and we learn how to work better together. They're really fun, but we both get very stressed. After we're done with them, Collin always wants to do another, but I'm always ready for a glass of wine!
Movies
Collin and I LOVE going to the movies. It's probably the date night that we've done the most out of any of these. We only go when there's a movie we really want to see, but it's something we both love to do. We have our favorite movie theatre which has relining seats and seat heaters. I always bring a blanket and we get so cozy! We have our go-to candy and it's just so relaxing. I'm really bad and tend to fall asleep during movies, but Collin is a total night owl and the later the movie, the better. You can't go wrong with a movie date!
Dog Beach
Taking the dog to the beach is always a fun date. Jax is not the kind if dog you can take off the leash and he runs and plays with all the other dogs and goes in the water. We have to keep his harness on him at the very minimum and keep a super close eye on him. He usually only lasts for a little bit running around so then it's just Collin, Jax and me sitting on a beach towel. People watching is always fun and it's hilarious to watch all the other dogs run around.
Date Night In
Date nights don't always have to be going out. If you stay home, you just need to be intentional about it. Cook a fancy dinner together, set the table and don't turn on the tv. Open a bottle of wine or make a drink and just enjoy each other's company. Spending time together is really what it's all about to just making the time to be together is all that really matters. You can play a game after or just sit on the couch and cuddle. It's all about perspective and turning your home into a romantic night in.
Mini Golf
We love mini golf! It's such a fun game to play together. Collin and I have our favorite mini golf course in Del Mar that we both love so we never have to think about where to go. It's sort of the same idea as an arcade in the fact that you can get a little bit competitive with each other in a playful way. We definitely keep score and it's always fun to see how close we came. Collin typically beats me by a couple points, but I'm determined to beat him!
Water Sports
Being in San Diego, Collin and I have lots of access to water sports and if we have a day off together, we take advantage of it. My parents own a boat in Mission Bay so we like take the dinghy over to where all the restaurants a re and grab a drink and a bite to eat. There are so many places where you can rent stuff to play on the water. Jet skies, paddle boards and sailing are all things you can rent. You can always rent boogie boards and lay on the beach or surf boards and learn how to surf, which is always fun to watch. If you're in San Diego for date night, you can't go wrong with playing on the water.
